April Wrap-Up
Book News/Progress:
My cover reveal!! I think most of you already saw, but if you didn’t yet, go check out the cover for THE SONG OF ORPHAN’S GARDEN. It’s absolutely everything I hoped it would be, and as a reader who definitely judges a book by its cover, I couldn’t be more thrilled!
Website for the Middle Grade Escapades: Some of us who are debuting in 2025 created a group to help hype our books a bit. I’ve been working hard on creating a website for us, and it’s done now! Of course, it will be updated a lot in the future as more of us have covers, release dates, etc, but you should definitely check it out and see the middle grade debuts coming in 2025! Finished my revise and resubmit: I finished my revise & resubmit for my option title. I actually ended up editing two different versions to send, one completely in verse and one that’s a hybrid of verse and prose. I’m sending it tomorrow. I’m really hoping my editor is happy with one of these and we get to move forward with it, but we shall see!
What I Read:
- I read (and reviewed) Just Like Click by Sandra Grubb. I loved this one!
- I also finished reading Daughters of the Lamp by Nedda Lewers, an Islam-based fantasy that will take kids on an adventure through time!
- Then I read Mexikid by Pedro Martín, a graphic novel memoir that was nominated for the Barnes & Noble Children’s & YA Book Awards. This road trip story will show kids a side of Mexico most of them have probably never seen!
- Finally, I listened to Once There Was by Kiyash Monsef, another book nominated for the B&N kids’ book awards. This book is so gorgeously written!!! I only have one more book to read for the awards!
- I read A Royal Conundrum by Lisa Yee, illustrated by Dan Santat. This book was nominated for the Barnes & Noble Children’s & YA Book Awards. As I mentioned in my last Sunday Post, I’m trying to read all of these so I can properly vote!
- I also read The In-Between by Katie Van Heidrich. This verse novel about a family dealing with homelessness has so much heart!
- Next, I read Ghost Book by Remy Lai, another B&N Book Awards nominee. This is one of my favorite graphic novels I’ve read in quite a while!
- Then my next read was, Parachute Kids by Betty C. Tang, another graphic novel for the B&N Awards – loved this one too! (And I had a little girl come into the store the other day, overjoyed to be able to buy it because she loved it so much.)
- Finally, I listened to The Last Cuentista by Donna Barba Higuera. This one is B&N’s current monthly pick. I try to read these as often as I can so I can recommend them – and this one will definitely be recommended!
