April/May Wrap-Up
Book News/Progress:
My new author website is live! I’d love it if you’d go to NicoleMHewitt.com and check it out! (There’s also a link in the menu here on the blog – I replaced the About Me page with a link to the new site.) The adorable main illustration was created by Dabi’s Diary, and the web design was done by the ultra-talented Jenny at Websy Daisy. It honestly turned out even better than I could have imagined it! What I Read:
- I read Love That Dog by Sharon Creech, Ruptured by Joanne Rossmassler Fritz, A Work in Progress by Jarrett Lerner, Four Eyes by Rex Ogle, and The Swifts by Beth Lincoln. Then I started reading The Adventures of the Flash Gang: Exploding Experiment by M.M. Downing & S.J. Waugh.
- I finished listening to Under the Whispering Door by T.J. Klune. I really liked this one, though not quite as much as Cerulean Sea.
- Then I listened to Ellie Engle Saves Herself by Leah Johnson, which I was pleasantly surprised to realize is an LGBTQ+ book. (This should have been obvious–I just wasn’t paying attention when I got my review copy.)
- I also read The Write Thing by Kwame Alexander and What Is Poetry?: The Essential Guide to Reading and Writing Poems by Michael Rosen, just to get another perspective on teaching poetry to middle grade readers (in preparation for future school visits).
- I read The Stranded by Sarah Daniels, an intriguing dystopian set on a once-cruise-ship-turned-refugee-camp. And then I read Inside Out and Back Again and the new sequel, When Clouds Touch Us, both by Thanhhà Lại.
- I finished listening to The Last Human by Lee Bacon.
- I read Escape from Grimstone Manor by Matt McMann, Perfect Villains by Jennifer Torres, Swim Team by Johnnie Christmas, The Mighty Bite by Nathan Hale, and Global by Eoin Colfer & Andrew Donkin, illustrated by Giovanni Rigano. Some great reading!!
- I finished listening to Two Degrees by Alan Gratz, a book that’s packed with non-stop excitement.
- I read Mirror to Mirror by Rajani LaRocca – a fantastic verse novel! Then I read Write Your Novel from the Middle, a writing craft book that I learned about when I went to the SCBWI conference in February. It’s excellent, and a great short read (that’s still very helpful!).
- I finished listening to Firekeeper’s Daughter by Angeline Boulley. Really enjoyed this book!
