Day Two
The second day of BEA was, by far, the most tiring and crazy! (By the way, if you haven’t seen my recap of Day One and that giveaway, check it out!) This day was all about the books, and I have to tell you that by the end of the day, I had almost every book that I was really hoping for. My mom and I definitely did the divide and conquer thing – we actually spent most of the day in separate lines, which meant that we got ALL the books!

Honestly, this was what Day Two was all about, but I was prepared for that, so it was all good.
Nicole’s Highlights – Replica, Heartless & Bookishly Ever After
I actually think my favorite part of BEA Day Two (besides meeting LOTS of awesome bloggers) was standing in the Lauren Oliver Replica line. I was in the very front of the line (I got there an hour and a half early – the same time my mom went to the MacMillan line) and stood and talked to the Harper Teen reps.
Heather Doss, in particular, was super sweet – she stood there for practically an hour telling me about the books she’s excited about that are coming out later in the year. Thanks to her, I have some new review books I’m really excited to read (I snatched up the Harper ones on Edelweiss and requested the one that wasn’t from Harper – crossing my fingers on that one)! In case you’re curious, the books she recommended were Stranger Game, This Savage Song, Secret of a Heart Note and Under Rose Tainted Skies. She also mentioned one called Two Girls in Brooklyn, but I can’t seem to find that one on Goodreads or Edelweiss – if it rings a bell with anyone (maybe I got the name slightly wrong?), let me know!
After I talked to Heather for a while, I ended up also chatting with some of the other Harper Teen reps as well – they were telling me all about the multiple ways to read Replica, which I found fascinating!! In case you aren’t aware (I wasn’t), Replica is one story written from two perspectives. You can read Lyra’s half of the book first and then flip it over and read Gemma’s – or vice versa – OR you can switch back and forth and read one chapter of each. The dialogue is the same in both versions, of course, but you’re getting a different POV. All of the reps read Lyra first (so they were all pretty much Team Lyra), but that’s because the digital version they had was formatted that way. I think I’m going to try the back and forth approach. There’s no way I’m going to be able to wait until close to October to read this one! (I don’t know why I didn’t get a picture with Lauren Oliver – I must have been in some sort of signing line haze – she was sweet and wonderful, though!)
Then, of course, the second highlight was getting Heartless signed by Marissa Meyer!! Both Replica and Heartless were made extra special because they came in cool boxes. Take a look at the pictures to see!
One other highlight was getting to see Isabel Bandeira again and having her sign Bookishly Ever After for me. Plus she had ADORABLE swag (check out the pics). I stood in line with Isabel for over an hour at BEA14 and discovered that she was fantastically sweet and endearing – her book is the same, so you should check it out if you’re a fan of YA (it’s perfect for younger YA readers, especially).
Gay’s Highlights – Adam Silvera and the crazy Macmillan ticket line!
My poor mom braved the crazy Macmillan ticket line for me so that I could get Heartless signed, and I have to be forever grateful to her, since on Day Three we found out that there were only three(!!) tickets available for Marissa Meyer after all the people who had special passes. Actually, I should say that my mom stood in the Macmillan “non-line mob thingy” since no line was allowed to form – and of course it did anyway.
Here’s what my mom said about it –
I went super early to get in line for a ticket for the Macmillan signing. When I first got there there were about seven people on one side of the aisle, and after a few minutes five more people formed a “line” on the opposite side. We were told that we couldn’t wait there and there wasn’t going to be a line.
Those of us who were there at the beginning moved so we were standing against the wall, out of the way. However, as time went on, more people started coming and the “line” got three deep. To say the least, the Macmillan reps were understandably not happy. When they eventually did start a line it was quite far from us, and everyone had to run to get to it. It wasn’t very organized, so it was kind of a mess. Still, we were all able to get the tickets we wanted, and once they started handing out the tickets it went very quickly. Plus, I got to spend some time with some of the new blogger friends I’d made – So standing in line forever wasn’t all bad!
This was really the only messed up line situation we encountered during the three days of BEA, so I call that a win! (Thanks, Mom, for doing this for me!!)
The best part of Mom’s (Gay’s? It’s so weird to call her that!) Day Two was seeing Adam Silvera again! She says –
Seeing Adam Silvera and getting him to sign his new book for me was the highlight of my day! I love Adam! I sat at his table last September at an Anderson’s Book event, and he actually remembered me. He is the sweetest and funniest author I have met. He actually thought no one was going to show up for his signing – I got there about an hour ahead and was about 6th in line. I heard much later that there were still people in his line! So guess he was wrong about no one showing up. Looking forward to reading his new book!
Bloggers I met on Day Two:
- Jenn and Ash from Jenn Renee Read & Ash Too! – I sat in the morning ticket line with Jenn and Ash for a good half hour before we exchanged cards and realized we knew each other! LOL! I ran into them a lot throughout BEA and sat with them at the BEA Blogger Dinner (on Day Three), so I got to talk to them often!!
- Jessica from A GREAT Read! – I’ve actually met Jessica before at a couple of Anderson’s events since she’s a kind-of-sort-of-local blogger (she lives like six hours away from me, but she drives in for book events sometimes), but it was GREAT to see her again! (See what I did there? I’m so clever.)
- Max from Twisted Wonderland and Broken Oz, though he mostly seems to review on Goodreads – Max was a super sweet kid, and he even picked up a book for my mom that we would have otherwise missed. I talked to him and Kelsey (see the next bullet point) for a long time in the Metaltown line and we ran into each other periodically throughout the conference.
- Kelsey from Yureka – Yureka isn’t actually a blog but a book subscription service. (I hadn’t heard of it before, but now that I’ve checked it out, it seems really interesting!) Again, I talked to her in the very long wait for Metaltown (which I was very excited to get) and then ran into her occasionally throughout BEA.
- Shannon from It Starts at Midnight – If I have one regret about BEA, it’s that I only managed to meet up with Shannon once and only talked to her for a few short minutes. Like, seriously, how did that happen?! There were so many people that I randomly ended up in line with again and again, but I couldn’t seem to find her anywhere. (Ironically, when I finally did see her, my mom said, “Ohhhh, that’s the Shannon you’ve been trying to find? I’ve been in line with her several times!”) Sigh.
- CJ from Sarcasm & Lemons – I knew of CJ before BEA, but didn’t really follow her. That will now be changing – if you don’t follow her, you should go do so now! CJ is awesome and I ended up hanging out with her a lot in lines at BEA (along with Mishma). She’s just an all-around fantastic person!
- Gosh, I think those are all the main people I met on Day Two (I have to confess that I also have cards for lots of other people that I’m not exactly sure when I met them!). I’ll tell you about the others in my Day Three post!

We seriously got like ALL the books on Day Two. Some of this was due to awesome dividing and conquering, and some was pure luck (for instance, we got Caraval on a fluke because I heard that there was a bag drop at MacMillan – didn’t even realize Caraval was inside until awhile later!)
