September Wrap-Up
Book News/Progress:
Book event with Megan E. Freeman. I did an author event with Megan at the Barnes & Noble where I work. She was in town for some school visits because her book was nominated for the Rebecca Caudill Award (which is Illinois’ award for 4th-8th grade students), so I figured it was the perfect opportunity to arrange a bookstore event! It was really fun to do a discussion event with her, and the event was a great success!!
American Writers’ Museum. On Friday, Megan, my mom, and I went into downtown Chicago. We visited the American Writer’s Museum, which had some cool interactive exhibits, had a great lunch, went up to the top of the John Hancock building to see the view of the city, and took a water taxi ride along the Chicago River. We also tried to visit the Bean and a bookstore, but the Bean was under construction and completely blocked off, and the bookstore had closed last week. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Thinking about book covers! This week I’ve been working on cover notes for THE SONG OF ORPHAN’S GARDEN so I could send them off to my editor. There are so many middle grade covers that I adore, so this was a very fun assignment. It’s so exciting to think about what my own cover will someday look like!
Notes from a sensitivity reader. I got some great notes from a sensitivity reader for my book and finished another round of edits based on them!
What I Read:
- I listened to Three Dark Crowns and One Dark Throne and started listening to Two Dark Reigns by Kendare Blake. Danielle is reading the series and is now on the final book, so I have to catch up! (And then I FINALLY finished the series!!!)
- I read A Baker’s Guide to Robber Pie by Caitlin Sangster. I got a copy of this lovely imaginative fantasy from my editor as a gift when I signed with Feiwel & Friends, and it makes me feel privileged to be in such incredible company!
